Mid-March Winter Snow Storm Expected Tonight, as well as Treacherous Road Conditions

Monday, March 13, 2017- There is a winter storm warning covering DC and several counties in Maryland and Virginia. Heavy snow is expected in the northwest, and a dangerous mix of snow, rain, and sleet is expected in the District and its surrounding suburbs. Predictions on the level of snow fall varies from 4 to 8 inches.

The winter storm warning is in effect for areas west of DC and DC itself from 7pm Monday through 2pm Tuesday. Metro officials announced that paratransit services will be suspended at 4pm on Monday, March 13, 2017 through all day Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Northwest of DC will be hit the hardest, with predicted accumulations of 10 inches or more.

DC area drivers are cautioned not to drive until the road conditions are deemed safe. In January of 2016, one inch of snow unleased 9 hours of traffic chaos in the DC region. There were more than 1,000 car collisions (unofficially reported via Waze). Just this year in early January, there were serious traffic accidents throughout the DMV area due to a less severe winter storm. In Virginia alone, in a twelve hour period the state police responded to 325 crashes and 322 disabled vehicles. There were 1,124 calls for service during that same period.

In short, be careful out there, and if you are or a loved one are injured in a collision due to someone else’s negligence on the road, please do not hesitate to call Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata, & Siegel P.C. We want to help.
