A 10-year-old boy was killed last week after being struck in a designated
crosswalk while riding his bike on Sunday, April 10. The boy was flown
from the accident scene in Waldorf, Maryland, to Children’s National
Medical Center, in Washington, DC.
According to the Charles County Sheriff’s office, the boy did nothing
wrong and did nothing to contribute to the accident. He was wearing a
helmet and he was riding his bike in a crosswalk with clear markings and
street signs. The boy’s mother and two of his friends were with
him when the tragic accident occurred.
The name of the 28-year-old female driver who hit him has not been released.
The driver was driving a Nissan Altima and traveling south on the 2700
block of McDaniel Road where the accident occurred at approximately 4:00 p.m.
Throughout the 40+ year history of Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel,
P.C., our team of legal professionals have seen far too many tragic accidents
such as the accident in Waldorf. Although it is not precisely clear what
bicycle accident, these type of accidents are sadly often caused by driver inattention,
speeding, and increasingly by drivers paying more attention to their cell
phone than the road.
