Water testing at three schools in Northeast and Southeast D.C. have revealed elevated lead levels in the school water. High lead levels in drinking water can cause long-term lead poisoning (particularly in children), which causes brain damage resulting in developmental problems such as impulsive behavior, poor language skills, and trouble learning new information. As a result of the findings, city officials have announced plans to conduct lead poisoning tests for students at the affected schools.

Premises owners are required by law to take reasonable measures to ensure the safety of their property and the people who use and enjoy their property. Unfortunately, property owners do not always attend to potential hazards or perform their due diligence in addressing or warning the public about dangers. When this is the case, victims who suffer illnesses or injuries on another’s property may have the right to recover financial compensation for their damages.

If you are concerned that your child has been the victim of lead poisoning, you should contact the personal injury attorneys at Chaikin, Sherman, Cammarata & Siegel, P.C., for a free consultation.
