The head of Prince George’s County Liquor Board has been charged with Driving Under the Influence after a collision outside of MGM National Harbor Casino. Several witnesses saw the chairman, Charles W. Caldwell, III, strike two vehicles while he was attempting to leave the casino. There is a video of the incident that shows Mr. Caldwell having trouble walking after police arrived at the scene. He refused to take a breathalyzer and failed the field sobriety test. At least two people were injured because of the incident.

In contradiction to the video evidence as well as several witnesses’ accounts, Mr. Caldwell said after the fact that his unsteady footing was because of his age and his doctor had advised him to use a cane. This is a sad and disappointing example of how some people attempt to leverage their power to escape responsibility for their actions.
