A collision between an SUV and a tractor-trailer carrying mail for the U.S. Postal Service has left three people injured. The accident occurred this morning, November 30th, at around 3:00 a.m. in the Silver Spring area near Cherry Hill Road and Calverton Boulevard.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the SUV, who were trapped in the vehicle when the trailer landed on top of the car, suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and are currently being treated at local hospitals. So far, it is unclear exactly what caused the crash. An investigation is currently underway to determine what went wrong.

The part of the road where the incident occurred has been shut down while investigators look into the cause of the crash. Drivers are asked to avoid the area as there is currently no estimate on when the road will be reopened.
